Pokémon restock times by retailer: what's real and what's a myth

Online inventory is continuous, not scheduled

Large retailers update online availability as orders cancel, returns process, and warehouse allocations move. That produces stock appearing at effectively arbitrary times rather than in one nightly batch.

This is why a fixed-hour checking habit underperforms a state-change alert: the state changes are what you care about, and they do not respect a schedule.

In-store and online are separate systems

A store receiving a shipment does not mean the website has stock, and vice versa. Store pickup availability and ship-to-home availability are frequently tracked and allocated independently at the same retailer.

If you can reach a store, treating pickup as a second, distinct signal genuinely increases your hit rate.

Where the myths come from

Truck day is real for physical restocking at many chains, but the day varies by store and by region, and the shelf may be stocked hours or days after the delivery. A pattern that holds at one location is not a national schedule.

Launch-night drops are also real, but they are the exception rather than the rule — and the post-launch waves in the following weeks are where most collectors actually succeed.

What to watch instead

• Sold-out to in-stock transitions on the specific products you want
• Preorder listings appearing for announced sets
• Price movement against MSRP, especially on marketplace-heavy sites
• Coming-soon listings, which usually precede real stock
